Ghostly Images in Lechuguilla Cave, New Mexico

Lake Castrovalva in Lechuguilla Cave, New Mexico.

A guide takes you along on his trip through the strange caverns of Lechuguilla Cave, New Mexico. He shows you the bizarre crystal formations of the cave with his flash light. It's not quite the technology of the BBC production, Planet Earth, but it's still quite amazing.

Lechuguilla Cave is only for experienced cave explorers. It can be quite dangerous. Here is the story of a rescue of a woman who had been maping the cave. She was injured when a rock broke off the wall and fell on her leg. This story describes the rescue effort.

BBC's Planet Earth takes you deep into Yucatan's "cenotes" to explore with the divers the underwater caverns that extend for miles. Fortunately, you're not down there with them. Those "squeezes" can be pretty scary.

Louis Armstrong: "What a Wonderful World"

I see trees of green........ red roses too
I see them bloom..... for me and for you
And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue..... clouds of white
Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world.

The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces.....of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands.....sayin.. how do you do
They're really saying ......I love you.

I hear babies cry...... I watch them grow
They'll learn much more.....than I'll never know
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world

(instrumental break)

The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky
Are there on the faces.....of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands.....saying.. how do you do
They're really saying ...*spoken*(I ....love....you).

I hear babies cry...... I watch them grow
*spoken*(you know they're gonna learn
A whole lot more than I'll never know)
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself .......what a wonderful world.

La Negra Tiene Tumbao - Celia Cruz - With English Translation

"Heritage" by Chidi Okoye

La Negra Tiene Tumbao - Celia Cruz
The black woman walks with grace

Esa negrita que va caminando
This black baby that is going on walking
Esa negrita tiene su tumbao
This black baby has its own rhythm
Y cuando la gente la va mirando
And when people are watching her
Ella baila de lao va bien apretao
She dances by the side she walks by really tight (busy)

La negra tiene tumbao
The black woman walks with grace
Y no camina de lao
And doesn’t walk along the side

Si quieres llegar derecho
If you want to reach straight away
Mejor camina de frente
You’d better walk head-on
Para que no haya tropiezos
So that there won’t be any obstacles
Y venga aquí todo vences.
And come here you will beat everything.

Si quieres llegar primero
If you want to be there first
Mejor se corre despacio
You’d better run slowly
Disfruta bien de la vida
Enjoy life well
Aunque tomando medidas
Even if simultaneously you will be taking measures

La negra tiene tumbao
The black woman walks with grace
Y no camina de lao
And doesn’t walk along the side

Cuando la gente se muere
When people die
Se dice que era tan buena
It is said that they were so nice
Tan buena cuando viva
So nice when they were alive
Como la noche y el día
Like the night and the day

Que a mi me vengan a decir la verdad
But let them come and tell me the truth
No aguanto ya mas mentiras
I can’t stand the lies anymore
Disfruto bien de la vida
I enjoy life well
Aunque tomando medidas
Even if simultaneously i have to take measures

La negra tiene tumbao
The black woman walks with grace
Y no camina de lao
And doesn’t walk along the side

(Rap)
Tiene tumbao
She has rhythm
Anda derechito no camina de lao
She walks on straight she doesn’t walk side along
Diosa de la noche, dulce como el melao
Goddess of the night, sweet like honey
Otra como ella yo nunca he encontrao
Another like her I have never found

Ven aqui para poder compartir
Come here so as to be able to share
Porque eres tu la negra linda que me hace feliz
Because you are the beautiful black woman that makes me happy

Otra no quiero
I don’t want any other
(Eres tu la que me da inspiracin)
You are the one who gives me inspiration
Sin ti me muero
Without you I am dying
(Me haces falta se me rompe el corazon)
I need you my heart is breaking
Otra no quiero
I don’t want any other
(Si no estas siento desperacion)
If you aren’t here I feel desperate
Sin ti me muero
Without you I am dying.

"Summertime" by George Gershwin

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky

But till that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With daddy and mamma standing by

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

Declan Galbraith - An Angel

I wish I had your pair of wings
Had them last night in my dreams
I was chasing butterflies
'Till the sunrise broke my eyes

Tonight the sky has glued my eyes
Cause what they see's an angel hive
I've got to touch that magic star
And greet the angels in their hive

Sometimes I wish I were an angel
Sometimes I wish I were you
Sometimes I wish I were an angel
Sometimes I wish I were you

All the sweet honey from above
Pour it all over me sweet love
While you're flying around my head
Your honey kisses keep me fed

I wish I had your pair of wings
Just like last night in my dreams
I was lost in paradise
Wish I'd never opened my eyes

Sometimes I wish I were an angel
Sometimes I wish I were you
Sometimes I wish I were an angel
Sometimes I wish I were you

But there's danger in the air
Trying so hard to be unfair
Danger's in the air
Trying so hard to give us a scare
But we're not afraid

Sometimes I wish I were an angel
Sometimes I wish I were you
Sometimes I wish I were an angel
Sometimes I wish I were you

Wish I were you
Oh I wish I were you

Declan Galbraith - "Tell Me Why"

All about the amazing career of Declan Galbraith from Wikipedia. This amazingly precocious singer was born in 1991 and started his meteoric career at the age of seven! His songs are a great hit in China where they are used for teaching English to children because of their beauty and simplicity.

In my dream, children sing
A song of love for every boy and girl
The sky is blue and fields are green
And laughter is the language of the world
Then I wake and all I see
Is a world full of people in need

Chorus:
Tell me why(why) does it have to be like this?
Tell me why (why) is there something I have missed?
Tell me why (why) 'cause I don't understand
When so many need somebody
We don't give a helping hand
Tell me why?

Everyday I ask myself
What will I have to do to be a man?
Do I have to stand and fight
To prove to everybody who I am?
Is that what my life is for
To waste in a world full of war?

Chorus:
Tell me why(why) does it have to be like this?
Tell me why (why) is there something I have missed?
Tell me why (why) 'cause I don't understand
When so many need somebody
We don't give a helping hand
Tell me why?

Chorus:
(children)tell me why?(Declan)tell me why?
(children)tell me why?(Declan)tell me why?
(together) just tell me why, why, why?

Chorus:
Tell me why(why) does it have to be like this?
Tell me why (why) is there something I have missed?
Tell me why (why) 'cause I don't understand
When so many need somebody
We don't give a helping hand
Tell me why?

Chorus:
Tell me why (why, why, does the tiger run)
Tell me why(why why do we shoot the gun)
Tell me why (why, why do we never learn)
Can someone tell us why we let the forest burn?
(why, why do we say we care)
Tell me why(why, why do we stand and stare)
Tell me why(why, why do the dolphins cry)
Can some one tell us why we let the ocean die?
(why, why if we're all the same)
Tell me why(why, why do we pass the blame)
Tell me why (why, why does it never end)
Can some one tell us why we cannot just be friends?
Why, why

"Tom Dooley" The Kingston Trio 1958

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die
I met her on the mountain
There I took her life
Met her on the mountain
Stabbed her with my knife

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

This time tomorrow
Reckon where I'll be
Hadn't a-been for Grayson
I'd a-been in Tennessee

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

This time tomorrow
Reckon where I'll be
Down in some lonesome valley
Hangin' from a white oak tree

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die

Poor boy, you're bound to die
Poor boy you're bound to die
Poor boy, you're bound to die...

"Blowin' in The Wind" - Bob Dylan

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, and how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, and how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, and how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take until he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before its washed to the sea?
Yes, and how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

"This Land is Your Land" - Woodie Gutherie

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND
words and music by Woody Guthrie

This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me

As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me

I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me

The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me

As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there
And that sign said - no tress passin'
But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!

In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.

"We Shall Overcome" - Sung by Joan Baez, Lyrics by Pete Seeger

We shall overcome,
We shall overcome,
We shall overcome, some day.

Oh, deep in my heart, I know that,
I do believe
We shall overcome, some day.

We shall be all right,
We shall be all right,
We shall be all right, some day.

Oh, deep in my heart, I know that,
I do believe
We shall overcome, some day.

We shall live in peace,
We shall live in peace,
We shall live in peace, some day.

Oh, deep in my heart, I know that,
I do believe
We shall overcome, some day.

We are not afraid, Oh, NO!!!
We are not afraid,
We are not afraid, TODAY

Oh, deep in my heart, I know that,
I do believe
We shall overcome, some day.

We shall overcome,
We shall overcome,
We shall overcome, some day.

Oh, deep in my heart, I know that,
I do believe
We shall overcome, some day.

Joan Baez once said that social justice was more important to her than singing.
The cause of social justice, however, couldn't have a better voice than the
beautiful singing voice of Joan Baez. Here is an article about her in Wikipedia.

"Weight of The World" Amy Speace

I still see my brother Michael,
pressed and polished, shaking hands down at the store
Everyone had come to see the all-star hop the greyhound bus and go to war
He punched me in the arm to say goodbye
It was the first time that I saw our father cry

I kept all my brother’s letters tied in ribbon in a box beneath my bed
Every night I read by flashlight with the covers in a tent above my head
His words said “Not to worry, doing fine”
It was his way of trying to ease my mind
While I was trying not to read between the lines

The weight of the world, too heavy to lift
So much to lose, so much to miss
It doesn’t seem fair that an innocent boy
Should have to carry the weight of the world

Then it was homecoming and football games and
picking out our dresses for the prom
With my brother in some desert dodging bullets when he wasn’t dodging bombs
While we went from the land of brave and free
To just being afraid to disagree
While I was being brought down to my knees by

The weight of the world, too heavy to lift
So much to lose, so much to miss
It doesn’t seem fair that an innocent boy
Should have to carry the weight of the world

It was the middle of December when the Army sent my brother home at last
While the flagpole by the football field flew the colors half-way down the mast
The wind blew cold and snow was coming down
Still everybody turned out from our town
As we laid my brother in that frozen ground

The weight of the world, too heavy to lift
So much was lost, so much was missed
It doesn’t seem fair that any boy or any girl
Should have to carry the weight of the world

"Good Night, Irene" - Pete Seeger

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams.

Last Saturday night, I got married.

Me and my wife settled down
Now me and my wife are parted
I'm gonna take another stroll downtown.

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams.

Sometimes I live in the country
Sometimes I live in the town

Sometimes I take a great notion
To jump In the river and drown.

Irene goodnight, Irene good night
Good night Irene, good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams.

Stop rambling, stop your gambling
Stop staying out late at night
Go home to your wife and your family
Sit there by your fireside bright.

Irene goodnight, Irene good night
Good night Irene, good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams.

Good night Irene, good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams.

Joanna Newsom -"Sprout and The Bean"

I slept all day
awoke with distaste
and I railed,
and I raved

That the difference between
the sprout and the bean
It is a golden ring,
it is a twisted string.
And you can ask the counselor;
And you can ask the king;
and they'll say the same thing;
and it's a funny thing:

Should we go outside?
Should we go outside?
Should we break some bread?
Are you interested?

And as I said,
I slept as though dead
Dreaming seamless dreams of lead.

When you go away,
I am big-boned and fey
In the dust of the day,
In the dirt of the day.

And Danger! Danger! Drawing near them was a white coat,
And Danger! Danger! Drawing near them was a broad boat,
And the water! water! running clear beneath a white throat,
And the hollow chatter of the talking of the tadpoles.

Who know the outside!
Should we go outside?
Should we break some bread?
Are you interested?

Mary Martin in "Peter Pan" sings "Neverland"

WENDY:
Peter where do you live?

PETER PAN:
It's a secret place.

WENDY:
Please, tell me!

PETER PAN:
Would you believe me if I told you?

WENDY:
I promise.

PETER PAN:
For sure.

WENDY:
For sure!

PETER PAN:
I have a place where dreams are born,
And time is never planned.
It's not on any chart,
You must find it with your heart.
Never Never Land.

It might be miles beyond the moon,
Or right there where you stand.
Just keep an open mind,
And then suddenly you'll find
Never Never Land.

You'll have a treasure if you stay there,
More precious far than gold.
For once you have found your way there,
You can never, never grow old.

And that's my home where dreams are born,
And time is never planned.
Just think of lovely things.
And your heart will fly on wings,
Forever in Never Never Land.

You'll have a treasure if you stay there,
More precious far than gold.
For once you have found your way there,
You can never, never grow old.

And that's my home where dreams are born,
And time is never planned.
Just think of lovely things.
And your heart will fly on wings,
Forever in Never Never Land

"Singing In The Rain" Gene Kelly's Legendary Song and Dance Number

Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo...

I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feeling
I'm happy again
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain
I've a smile on my face
I walk down the lane
With a happy refrain
Just singing,
Singing in the rain

Dancing in the rain
Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah
Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah
I'm happy again!
I'm singing and dancing in the rain!

(Explaining to the policeman)

I'm dancing and singing in the rain...

Shirely Jones and Gordon Macrae singing "If I Loved You" from the film version of the musical "Carousel"

Julie
But somehow I can see
Just exactly how I'd be-

If I loved you,
Time and again I would try to say
All I'd want you to know.
If I loved you,
Words wouldn't come in an easy way
Round in circles I'd go!
Longing to tell you,
But afraid and shy,
I'd let my golden chances pass me by!
Soon you'd leave me,
Off you would go in the mist of day,
Never, never to know how I loved you
If I loved you.

Billy
Well, anyway, you mean you don't love me.
That's what you said, isn't it?

Julie
Yes!
I can smell 'em, can you, ah?
The blossoms. The wind brings 'em down!

Billy
There ain't much wind tonight... Hardly any.
You can't hear a sound, not the turn of a leaf
Nor the fall of a wave hitting the sand.
The tide's creeping up on the beach like a thief,
Afraid to be caught stealing the land!
On a night like this I start to wonder
What life is all about.

Julie
And I always say two heads are better than one to
figure it out.

Billy
[spoken]
I don't need you, or anyone to help me.
I got it figured out for myself.
What are we?
A couple o' specks with nothing
Look up there...

[sung]
Why, you can't even count the stars in the sky,
And the sky's so big the sea looks small,
And two little people, you and I
We don't count at all.

[spoken]
You're a funny kid, you know?
I don't remember meeting a girl like you.
Hey, you're trying to get me to marry you?

Julie
No!

Billy
Then what's putting it into my head?
I wonder what it'd be like...

Julie
If you loved me?

Billy
Yeah.

Julie
[spoken]
But you don't!

Billy
No, I don't!
[sung]
But somehow I can see
Just exactly how I'd be
If I loved you,
Time and again I would try to say
All I'd want you to know.
If I loved you,
Words wouldn't come in an easy way
Round in circles I'd go!
Longing to tell you,
But afraid and shy
I'd let my golden chances pass me by!
Soon you'd leave me,
Off you would go in the mist of day,
Never, never to know
How I loved you
If I loved you.

[spoken]
Aha...I'm not the kind of fellow to marry anybody!
No, even if a girl was foolish enough to want me to,
I wouldn't!

Julie
Don't worry about it, Billy!

Billy
Who's worried?

Julie
You were right about there being no wind.
The blossoms are coming down by themselves.
Just they're in time to, I reckon. (reckon=think)

"People Will Say We're in Love" from "Oklahoma"

Josephina Gabrielle and Hugh Jackman in "Oklahoma"

LAUREY

Why do they think up stories that link my name with yours?

CURLY

Why do the neighbors chatter all day, behind their doors?

LAUREY

I know a way to prove what they say is quite untrue.
Here is the gist, a practical list of "don'ts" for you.
Don't throw bouquets at me
Don't please my folks too much
Don't laugh at my jokes too much
People will say we're in love!
Don't sigh and gaze at me
Your sighs are so like mine
Your eyes mustn't glow like mine
People will say we're in love!
Don't start collecting things
Give me my rose and my glove.
Sweetheart they're suspecting things
People will say we're in love.

CURLY

Some people claim that you are to blame as much as I.
Why do y' take the trouble to bake my favorite pie?
Grantin' your wish, I carved our initials on that tree.
Just keep a slice of all the advice you give so free.
Don't praise my charm too much
Don't look so vain with me
Don't stand in the rain with me
People will say we're in love!
Don't take my arm too much
Don't keep your hand in mine
Your hand feels so grand in mine
People will say we're in love!
Don't dance all night with me
Till the stars fade from above.
They'll see it's alright with me
People will say we're in love.

"Ol' Man River" from Show Boat, sung by the very famous Paul Robeson

There's an old man called The Mississippi
That's the old man that I try to be.
What does he care if the world got troubles,
What does he care if the land ain't free. ("ain't" is slang for "isn't, aren't")

Old man river,
That old man river
He must know somethin'
But don't say nothin',
He just keeps rollin'
He keeps on rollin' along.

He don't plant taters (potatoes)
He don't plant cotton,
And them that plants 'em
is soon forgotten,
But ol' man river,
He just keeps rollin' along.

You and me, we sweat and strain,
Body all achin' and racked with pain,
Tote that barge!
Lift that bale!
Get a little drunk
And you land in jail.

I get weary
And sick of tryin'
I'm tired of livin'
And scared of dyin',
But ol' man river,
He just keeps rollin' along.

Darkies all work on the Mississippi,
Darkies all work while the white folks play,
Pullin' those boats from the dawn to sunset,
Gettin' no rest till the judgement day.

Don't look up
And don't look down,
You don't dast make
The white boss frown.
Bend your knees
And bow your head,
And pull that rope
Until you're dead.

Let me go 'way from the Mississippi,
Let me go 'way from the white man boss;
Show me that stream called the river Jordan,
That's the ol' stream that I long to cross.

Ol' man river,
That ol' man river,
He must know somethin'
But don't say nothin'
He just keeps rollin'
He keeps on rollin' along.

Long old' river forever keeps rollin' on...

He don't plant taters,
He don't plant cotton,
And them that plants 'em
Is soon forgotten,
but ol' man river,
He just keeps rollin' along.

Long ol' river keeps hearing that song.
You and me, we sweat and strain,
Body all achin' and racked with pain.
Tote that barge!
Lift that bale!
Get a little drunk
And you land in jail.

I get weary
And sick of tryin'
I'm tired of livin'
And scared of dyin',
But ol' man river,
He just keeps rollin' along!

The Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far

To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

Mamma Mia Lyrics

"Mamma Mia" is probably the world's most popular movie. Here are the music and lyrics for its main song. Enjoy!
